WiFi Security Kevin Curran eBook Reviews
This was an exciting book. I had read several things on 802.11 security in magazine articles etc but I was looking for a book which would bring it all together. This book certainly did. It was so easy to read. A real joy. It was also cheap. Only £8. A steal.
The chapters on war driving were really well done. Practical too and many tips for using war driving to examine how secure one's own wifi network is. I found it hard to put the book down - once I got it through the post. Sad - isn't it!
I recommend this book to anyone like me who wishes to navigate the minefield of reading about security. It is excellently written, practical, covers all relevant topics and much of the book is sound solid advice for persons wishing to install wifi networks at home or work.
Curran gives a timely warning to anyone setting up a WiFi network. It is so easy to inadvertantly leave it exposed to crackers. Exacerbated of course by the wireless nature of the network, which means that a cracker does not need to actually tap into a cable to gain access.
The book explains in detail how to conduct wardriving. In part so that you can defend your network against this. But it explains that this can also be fun. Simply to drive around town with your laptop, and seeing who has open networks. Some of these may be accidental. But others may actually be for anyone to use. The latter especially is becoming somewhat common, as a movement has arisen to deliberately enable widespread WiFi access.
