I strongly recommend reading the books in order. It is a fantastic series, original and intriguing.

Many series start off amazing then sizzle out by the second book. Not this one!! Black just keeps the amazing story telling going and I am thrilled to find out what happens to Grey! Also, what happens with Diablo?? I cannot wait to read the next one!
Fast paced and action packed, this dragon mystery is more than seductive enough to capture the imagination and keep you entertained to the end. While I recommend you read book 1 first, you do not need to in order to understand the who and why of what happens here.
I received an ARC copy of this book and the first book in this series in exchange for an honest review. Funnily enough, I'd already bought book 2.
This series is deeply complicated, mijnd blowing and well written. Fascinating world building. Entertaining relationships. This is what you want if you love dragons.
This book continued to build the drake world introduced in the last book, which was really interesting. The main characters were likable, but the story felt a bit slow in development. The last 10% of the book tends to be really fast paced with a lot of mysteries being resolved. The first 40% of the book is interesting as it introduces the main characters and the main conflict in the story. The rest of the story felt a bit slow. Overall, while interesting, I didn't enjoy this story as much as I did the first book in the series.
I’m inthralled. I believe Earth magic has me in it’s grip. That or the Handmaiden has put a spell on me. I don’t want to put this book down, really I don’t want to put this series down. Ever get to the end of a book and wish there was more? Thankfully, there is more, even better, each book continues to be it’s own complete story, and yet the next follows the stories time line and continues with the same characters. Ah, heaven!
I am enjoying this series a lot. While the romance is standalone, the story really is a continuation of book #1 and I think you'd regret not reading them in order - although I haven't read beyond this one so can't say if that will continue. Also note that the major story is still incomplete. There are four books in the series at this point, and I don't know if the overall story will be finished or if there will be more; for me, that is a big drawback and I do wish I hadn't started the series without knowing if/when the story would be completed.

I like the characters, there are plenty of plot twists, it is pretty well written. I caught a couple of typos but didn't catch more than that.

What I thought
Shattered Spirits is the second book following Immortal Coil. I had to go back and reread Immortal Coil because it had been two years between books. I hate to say but my memory is not that great and it was nice to read them back to back.
I really like these books, we have dragons, and magi with conspiracy, secrets and lets not forget true love.
Ryan and Capri story was good but I felt like it dragged in places. I Really enjoyed the last half of it the best, that's when it all started coming together and all the action took place. I am looking forward to the next one, I just hope we don't have to wait two years.
