This is one of Ms. Eden's earlier romantic suspense novels. Although it's the second in a series and I would recommend reading 'Deadly Fear' first, it's by no means necessary and can standalone. It's about a FBI special agent (Kenton) who hunts for serials, and a female firefighter (Lora) who calls in his teams help to stop a serial arsonist. I liked Kent and Lora who were both strong and determined to stop this pyro. Their chemistry and passion was through the roof and nearly set the pages ablaze, but at times I wanted less bedroom scenes (there's a lot) and more time spent on the actual plot. I don't think this story was as dark and intense as some of her later ones such as the 'Dark Obsession' series which are all wonderful by the way. Still a very good read that held my interest and was not only romantic but suspenseful too. You can never go wrong this author and I'd recommend all her books, she's the best!Tags : Deadly Heat [Cynthia Eden] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. <strong>She wants revenge . . . </strong>Six months after her lover died in an arsonist's blaze, firefighter Lora Spade calls in the FBI's elite Serial Services Division to track the elusive killer. Six months after her lover died in an arsonist's blaze, firefighter Lora Spade calls in the FBI's elite Serial Services Division (SSD) to catch the perpetrator. She is convinced there is a serial arsonist at work, but she is having a hard time convincing others of that. Her Chief supports her, however, and puts her in touch with the SSD. Special Agent Kenton Lake is dispatched, and they meet when Lora pulls him out of a fire they realize is set by the serial arsonist.
What follows is a quite-suspenseful story that provided a good bit of detail about fires, accelerants, arson investigation, etc. It is clear that Eden has done her homework - and I thought it added to the total story without going overboard.
SPOILERISH COMMENTS AHEAD
The arsonist was someone I came to suspect relatively early, but there were other possible candidates so the suspense was decently maintained.
I liked Lora and Kenton both individually and as a couple, yet that "coupledom" is ultimately what led me to a 4 vs. 5 star review. It just seemed like their bond came so quickly, like a bolt out of the blue. Not just attraction, but deep feelings. I have read other stories where that was the case and I was fully able to buy it, but for some reason it didn't quite ring true.
By the end, I felt the bond, and believed they were a good couple - and that it made sense for Kent to transfer out of SSD to another branch office so that he could be with Lora. But the start of things just felt too random. Just my opinion.
It was great to see more of Monica, Luke, Hyde and Sam, who is trying to battle back from what happened to her in Deadly Fear (first book in series). Once again, they were a great team, parsing back details, developing theories and leads, creating a profile, etc.
Another exciting read by Cynthia Eden. The second book from the Deadly Trilogy was a suspenseful as the first one. This one involved Kenton Lake, one of the SSD Agents and Lora Spade, a firefighter. Kenton and Lora had such great chemistry from the beginning. Both are strong characters and a perfect match for each other. We already know Kenton, and when we meet Lora, we realize she's not just someone who always needs help or rescuing, she's strong, and stubborn and a perfect fit. Being a firefighter, you have to be tough and not let fear stop you. Lora's realy weakness is learning to love because she's lost in the past. Meetin Kenton, she has to learn to open up and love again, even though theres that possibility of losing.
I absolutely loved this book. It was as great as the first one. Lots of twists and turns, another great whodunit. I kept trying to figure out who the killer was and thought for sure I knew, but again I had no clue and was surprised by who it really was. I do enjoy a great mystery. Cynthia Eden does such excellent job in combining sizzling romance, suspense, mystery, humor and action in one fast paced, action packed novel.
We get to see the rest of the SSD team including Luke and Monica, Sam, Ramirez, Kim and Hyde, which I totally enjoyed.
Not to spoil anything but one of the funniest scenes was when Kenton meets Lora's brothers. I couldn't stop laughing.
Well written and very hard to put down. I can't wait to read the next one. Just wish the Deadly Trilogy didn't end.
So, I've been on a Cynthia Eden kick recently, and I don't foresee it ending ant time soon. I really love the hidden secrets and inner darkness of her characters. I'm really not sure how I missed finding these books before, but in any case, they are making me happy now.
This story features Lora and Kent. I really liked Kent in book one of this series, and as his darker personality aspects come to light in this story, I like him even better. Lora is a firefighter. After her lover was killed in an arson fire, she spent six months trying to investigate on her own only to end up requesting the help of the SSD. Kent is the agent the SSD sends. Before he ever meets Lora, she ends up having to save him from another arson fire. Kent can't deny the instant spark of attraction he feels for Lora. As the two are assigned to work together chasing down the serial murderer who uses fire as his weapon, things between them heat up fast. Kent is determined to keep Lora safe, but Lora is used to a career of taking risks and doesn't intend to hide behind Kent while a killer goes free. In the end, it will take both of them together to stop the fires from spreading.
I was totally engrossed in this story and absolutely loved the characters. I'm ready for the next story.
